Yes, giving anyone other than DBAs and your SQL Server service account System Admin role rights is the equivalent of falling for scam such as this.  Don’t do it.  Cage-wrestle vendors that challenge you for this level of access.  Be sure to play dirty too.  I suggest duct taping 10-penny nails to your knuckles and smuggle a container of sea salt in your wrestling singlet.  Two go in – DBA come out.

By the way, once the spammers learn the idiosyncacies of English as a language and that the use of ALL CAPS is a dead give-away we’re in deep trouble.
