Still No Jetpack and Flying Cars: My SQL Server Predictions for 2014

SQL Server Pro Magazine recently asked that I give my predictions as to what 2014 holds for SQL Server as a platform and the SQL Community at large.  My thoughts, along with those from friends and colleagues Denny Cherry, Jen Underwood, Brent Ozar and Mark Kromer were just published and I invite you to read and load up the comments here: SQL Server Pro SQL Predictions for 2014.

I’ll give you one prediction here though before you check out the others:

I am pessimistic on adoption for SQL Server 2014 in the year of its release though am optimistic that the healthcare sector will finally adopt SQL Server 2012 in great numbers due to the pending end of mainstream support for SQL Server 2008 and 2008R2 in 2014 – finally pushing them from SQL 2005 and possibly being a boon to independent SQL contractors because I expect a mass move (FINALLY) from SQL 2000 to SQL 2012 (for which there is no direct upgrade path.)

What do you think of the other predictions made?  Out of the five of us who do you think has the best predictions for 2014?

In the end, to quote the John Wetton, Carl Palmer, Steve Howe and Geoffrey Downes… Only Time Will Tell.
