Day 8. The day to put down the mouse and realize that you can’t always be the impersonal, harsh “No”-slinging DBA. You need to let the people that you work with and for know that you have character and personality. You don’t build alliances and forge partnerships with robots and that is what most people thing we DBAs are. No More Brothers and Sisters! No! We must let the freak geek flags we keep in our desk drawers fly every once in a while. Life is short and work days are long. You’ll burn out if you are “on” all the time. Take time out to crack a few jokes, tweet a few senseless and stupid tweets – there is no such thing as a smoke break any more and we are now cramming way too much productivity into our days when you consider just about all of us take our work home with us. Relax, have fun, it makes you a more-rounded individual; more valuable too.
